Mumford merger a welcome change

“We acted like there was a line in the middle of the class separating us all,” senior Divine Crawford said. She was describing the first week in English teacher Rubye Richard’s AP Literature class.




The Mumford Glee Club sang "Lift Every Voice and Sing before the start of DPSCD Board of Director's meeting in the Mumford Auditorium on May 8.

Small school mergers create uncertain futures for some DPSCD students and staff

First, it was Osborn. After visiting the school last spring, new superintendent Nikolai Vitti proposed merging the three small high schools on the Osborn campus into one school starting last fall. Now the rest of the small schools in the district will have their turn. The Detroit Public School Community District Board of Directors met in the Mumford HS auditorium on Tuesday, May 9, and voted to combine the small schools at Cody, Mumford and Ben Carson/Crockett in their respective buildings.

Mumford girls win PSL basketball championship

In a 60-58 nail-biter, the Mumford varsity girls basketball team beat Renaissance on Feb. 16 to win the Public School League championship for the first time in the school’s 68 year history. “I’m on cloud nine,” said head coach Kareem Hogan after he climbed out of the post-game pile of screaming players.
