History teacher wins $2,000 in school supplies

History teacher wins $2,000 in school supplies By Camryn Walker and Shontell Butts Several weeks ago junior Hafizur Rahman from Benjamin Carson High School wrote an essay about history teacher Cody Lown for a contest from Comerica Bank called the “Tools for Schools Contest.” Rahman won the contest for his 400-word essay about Lown. The contest asked students to write about how their chosen teacher made an impact on their life and why they think the particular teacher deserved school supplies in their classroom.

Students at Benjamin Carson enjoy the new uniform.

New Polos, New Attitude

Benjamin Carson High School students’ uniforms used to consist of white button downs and a large variety of nursing scrubs, but the 2016-2017 school year changed all that because the staff of Ben Carson came up with a new addition: blue polos.

What makes a comeback, a comeback?

Detroit seems to be saying, “Out with the old and in with the new.” Many citizens are left uncertain when asked the question, “Is Detroit really the comeback city?” With all the contrast of good and bad coming from the city, it takes much effort to take a deeper look into the question. Over the past couple of years, the Motor City has changed for the better: tearing down old houses and buildings, building new infrastructure and parks, and even renewing the well-known Belle Isle and the Riverwalk.

Senior Spotlight: James Moore

A leader is a person that guides or is a directing head of a group or movement. From being captain of the football team to helping senior advisors plan senior activities, James Moore would definitely be qualified as a leader. Moore went to Renaissance High School for his freshman year, but transferred to Benjamin Carson High School because his brother attended the school.
