Graduating NAACP president emphasizes awareness

In September of 2015, then-Cass Tech senior Brittany Waugh implemented Cass Tech’s first NAACP student chapter. As current president, I, along with senior Mackenzie Galloway, kept the chapter running in hopes of seeing growth and development within our school and the community. Our student chapter fights to educate all races, especially minorities, about ways to end racial prejudice and inequality in today’s society.



How I received a 5.0

Cass Technical High School affords its students the opportunity to go above and beyond to reach some of the highest grade point averages (GPA) in the nation. Cass is the only DPS-CD school authorized for the International Baccalaureate program. As an International Baccalaureate (IB) and Advanced Placement (AP) college-preparatory institution, if students receive all A’s, while challenging themselves with rigorous AP or IB courses, it is possible to receive a 5.0 GPA.


Ilitch Companies put Cass Tech students to work

In March of 2015, Cass Tech students learned they would have the opportunity to work as paid corporate interns with the Ilitch Companies. The Ilitch family owns 11 companies, including the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Red Wings, and Little Caesars Pizza. Principal Lisa Phillips proactively sought the prestigious internships for her students after meeting with Ilitch Company executives in the months leading up to the announcement.
