Spotlight: Mrs. Peggy Brown

By Precious Gist Voice of the Ville

Mrs. Peggy Brown, a veteran teacher has taught with the Detroit Public Schools for 28 years. Brown teaches Civics and Economics here at The Ville. A product of DPS and proud graduate of Chadsey High School, Brown received her Bachelors of Arts in Unified Science degree, a Masters of Arts in Education degree and a Masters of Arts in Educational Administration all from Wayne State University.

“I knew I would become a teacher at the age of nine, even though I tried becoming a Doctor,” Brown states. Brown initially majored in the sciences when entering college at Wayne State and wanted to enter into the field of Geriatrics to assist in caring for her aging parents. However, she soon changed majors and decided to return to her love and passion, education. “My students are second to none, their number one” Brown states.

Brown is the President of the Detroit Lambda Pi Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She has proudly served as President for one year, but has been an active member for eighteen years. Lambda Pi Omega donates backpacks to local schools, supports Historical Black Colleges and Universities and most recently launched an ASCEND (Achievement, Self-Awareness, Communication, Engagement, Networking and Developmental) Program at East English. This program provides students with academic enrichment and life skills training.
