by Alexis Bailey, Staff Writer

Northland Mall loses a quarter of a million dollars a month accoring to Detroitnews.com due to losing tenants and loss of customers. It also faced new competition from the internet. And all of these factors are forcing the mall to close after the owners defaulted on a $31 million dollar loan.

The anchors of the mall (large department stores) have all left. The remaining tenets have been told to relocate within 30 days.

The mall’s website has been deactivated.

Crime has become a major complaint of shoppers.Tenants are giving rock--bottom sales to clear out inventory.

Many feel sad that a piece of Detroit is leaving but also want to get the cheap products.

“I feel kinda sad. And I want to cash in on the deals,” said junior Blake Adams.

Many are concerned about the effects the mall’s closure will have on the community.Once the mall closes it will be up for sale.

“It’s a large let down since many people have jobs, and that’s as far as they can travel to shop,” said senior Christian Peterson.

Some aren't concerned about how the vacant land will be used.

“-It will be converted to condos,” said school social worker Miss White.

The mall will shut it’s doors by the end of April.
