Renaissance: Let’s play the ACT

By Alexis Bailey Staff Writer

In two weeks Renaissance juniors will face the dreaded ACT. Many have gone to to somewhat boring ACT prep classes and have marked up the prep book the school gave them.

However, the ACT isn't the big bad wolf that will blow down students chances of college acceptance. It’s a test like any other.

But it’s much more flexible than any test students take in school. If students don't do well on their first try they can take the test over in June or September. This gives them time to study and do better next time (Juniors try telling that one to your math teacher-).

The test is like a game, so students should play it like one.And like a game, it has cheat code aka ACT strategies found in the ACT book or online which can raise scores without students working harder.

People can't play World Of Warcraft optimally if they have slow dial up internet. So students should bring a calculator to the test site. Just be sure it’s an approved calculator by checking online before the test.

It’s also important for students to have their ”username and password” (ID badge), a hearty snack and eat before playing this intense game..

And don’t cheat-cheaters often get caught, and the consequences aren't worth the reward of maybe getting the right answers. Plus, everyone in the room will hate you for making them retake the test.

Students  remember this is just one of three factors in college admissions. If they keep their grades high and participate in activities after school they’ll be in great shape for college admissions.
