Renaissance: No Storm Can Stop This Blast

By DaMareon White Staff writer

Despite the winter storms,  Detroit citizens still venture outside  to have fun. One  popular destination when the weather gets cold is the Meridian Winter Blast. The Winter Blast is a combination of festival  events that happen in and around Campus Martius Park in Downtown Detroit. Vendors sell hot food and drinks to visitors as they ride rides, listen to live music and view artwork.

The most popular event at the Winter Blast is the 200 foot Snowslide. The slide is made out of artificial snow and costs only $3 to ride.

“I’ve had a lot of fun at the Winter Blast in my past experiences. My favorite thing to do there is ride the Snowslide,” said freshman Jordan Walker. "It's so much fun."

A new attraction that has been added this year is the Zip Line Attraction. The zip line is 34 feet in the air  300 feet across, with  two harnessed cords that take you flying across the sky.

“I think that zip lines are fun. They give you a big adrenaline rush,” said freshman Anthony Womack.

Visitors also enjoy viewing the Ice Garden,  full of creative ice sculptures. Some of the most popular ice sculptures are the Detroit Red Wing sculptures, which were created in the image of  the hockey players.

The Winter Blast lasts through Feb. 6-8, and the more snow and ice the better. Mother Nature can do her worst- no snowstorm is going to stop Detroit residents from having fun at an annual winter tradition.
