Dress donation helps Cody prom become accessible, inclusive event

Cody High School is gearing up for its upcoming prom on May 24 with a touch of added excitement thanks to a generous donation of prom dresses. The donation, which arrived on February 16, eases the financial strain for students who might otherwise struggle to afford prom attire.

The dresses come in a variety of vibrant colors, allowing students to choose from bold blues, radiant pinks, and other eye-catching hues.

There were several young ladies waiting in line to see the new donated dresses.

Senior Jerimiah Roberts said, “The dresses are great for young ladies who need something fast and free. These are brand new dresses and they’re nice.”

The driving force behind this donation is Andrea Thompson, a new member of the Cody High School staff. Thompson is known for her commitment to helping students navigate the transition from high school to college. Her initiative with the prom dress donation underscores her dedication to making high school memorable for everyone. She believes prom should be an inclusive event where all students can feel confident and valued, regardless of their financial background.

The donation has sparked a wave of excitement among students and staff.

Many students have eagerly explored the dresses, imagining their perfect look for prom night. Principal Jason Solomon expressed gratitude for Thompson’s efforts, noting that her dedication to the students’ well-being is truly inspiring.

As prom night approaches, there’s a sense of anticipation and unity at Cody High School, as this donation not only makes the event accessible to more students but also fosters a stronger, more inclusive community.
