Sen. Bernie Sanders made a special appearance at Cass Technical High School on Oct. 27. Cass Tech was one of the many appearances Sanders made on his visit to Detroit.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib was present to support for Sanders, who hopes to win the Democratic nomination for the 2020 presidential election.

During the visit, Sanders and Tlaib each pledged a $5,000 gift the Cass Tech marching band. The funds will be used to help the band march in the Memorial Day parade in Washington D.C.

Sophomore DaJhai Davis said she was glad she was there at Cass Tech on that rainy afternoon.

“I thought it was actually kind of cool because I’ve never been up close to somebody like a presidential candidate or senator before,” she said.
