Meghan Markle inspires black community

Rachel Meghan Markle was born Aug. 4, 1981 in Los Angeles, California. She is an African American actress and humanitarian campaigner. Markle is now universally known as Prince Harry’s future spouse. They met on a blind date that a mutual friend put together. As of now, they have been together for more than a year “and made their first official outing together in September in Toronto at the Invictus Games, said Kimiko de Freytas-Tamura reporting from New York Times.

There are many positive comments about Markle being our new "Princess."

Cass Technical High School’s sophomore Toni Johnson said she is excited, yet surprised we have an African American woman in royalty and feels as though this puts a bigger platform up for the black community.

“I am an African American young woman myself and for me this inspires me to excel and be the best in life,” said Johnson.

Renaissance High School sophomore Paige Carter has a strong opinion about our new addition to royalty.

“We shouldn’t be celebrating the engagement of Prince Harry. We should be celebrating Meghan Markle," she said. "I am enlightened by this. We should let our black community know that we are valued and seen in The Royal Family’s history."
