English teacher is cherished at EEVPA

Lisa McMurty is a beloved and cherished English Teacher here at East English Village.

“I appreciate Ms. McMurtry teaching style. She is definitely preparing me for college”, states Gregory Elliott, a 12th grade student at East English Village. 

Diamond Carneva, also a 12th grade student said: “I love Ms. McMurtry. She's one of my favorite teachers because she holds me accountable and provides me with rigorous assignments.” 

McMurtry holds a Bachelors of Arts degree from Oakland University. She also holds a Masters of Arts in Education degree from University of Detroit Mercy. 

McMurtry has been a Teacher with Detroit Public Schools for 24 years. As an Educator, McMurtry states “education is a revolving door. While I’m imparting knowledge to students, I am continuously learning from them.” 

She enjoys teaching, as well as working with the community at EEVPA and through her sorority. On April 21, 1991, McMurty became a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. 

McMurtry grew up in Detroit and attended Detroit Public Schools. She is a graduate of Mumford High School.
