Detroit-Based entrepreneur named one of the 100 most influential

Just when Detroit businesses were being forgotten about, out of the woodwork comes the award-winning entrepreneur Gwen Jimmere.

Jimmere is the founder and CEO of the company Naturalicious. Naturalicious is a business centered around the care and styling of natural African American hair. Jimmere first started creating natural hair products due to not being able to find the type of products she needed anywhere. Jimmere created her signature OooLaLocks Hair Care System in her kitchen with only a few natural ingredients after realizing that she needed a health hair regimen in a shorter amount of time. After being laid off from her job, Jimmere decided to turn the products she created for herself into a real business.

A popular Washington Post magazine called The Root recently named Jimmere one of the 100 most influential African Americans across all boards of business and entertainment. Named among the likes of Beyoncé, LeBron James, and Jesse Williams; Jimmere was named 94th on this prestigious list.

"I think that is something great and I am glad she is being recognized and holding her own," senior Lapria Junior said. "I think that Detroit is coming back, but it’s coming back slowly.”

Not only was Jimmere ranked upon this list, she was also the first African American woman to hold a patent on a natural hair care product.

Jimmere was also recently honored with being named on another list of “25 Most Powerful Women in Detroit” by Walker’s Legacy Detroit.

“I think that is very inspiring and positive for young black girls in Detroit,” said senior Destanee Lucas.
