Cass advances to state title game; will play Romeo

By Keely Cruse CT Visionary

On Nov. 28, Cass Technical High School’s Div. 1 football team faced Romeo High School at Ford Field for the state championship.

While Cass has played state championships numerous times before (winning twice), Romeo High School (12-1) has never made it this far.

Cass has talents like Michael Onwenu, Donovan Johnson, Tim Walton, Donovan Peoples-Jones, Demetric Vance, and Jaylen Kelly-Powell, but Cass may face difficulty because quarterback Rodney Hall was recently injured in semifinals.

Romeo coaches Jason Couch and Curt Rienas have been training Romeo more intensely this season in hopes of winning the state championships. Romeo has talents like Mitchell Heimbutch (middle linebacker and tight end) and quarterback Paul Hurley.

While Cass Tech has familiarity with Ford Field’s stadium and two state titles under their belt, Romeo has had a better record this season, along with new tactics to show in the championship game.
