By Nathan Lymon Staff Writer

Douglass junior Rashad Littleton won first place in the SkillsUSA competition held in Grand Rapids on April 19.

Littleton said he wasn’t expecting to win the competition. Littleton said he was was nervous, but joyful when he ended up winning first place.

“I thought I was going going to be in second or third place, but when they called my name [for first place], I thought I was going to pass out,” said Littleton. “I get a chance to go to Louisville, Kentucky for the national SkillsUSA.”

According to its website, SkillsUSA is a “partnership of students, teachers and industry representatives working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce.”

It holds competitions for high school students at the local and national level where students can display a variety of job skills.

“I felt like I could see myself winning,” said Littleton. “Let yourself show and give all you got, no matter if you win or lose, just know that you did your best.”

Littleton will be going to Kentucky from June 22-27 to represent Michigan in the job interview category.
