King: Auto show impresses fans, critics (REVIEW)

By Jonathan Hurt Staff Writer

Terrance Sutton described this year’s North American International Auto Show as “probably the best one I’ve been to in years.”

“I’ve been to every show since 2008 and in my opinion this one was my favorite,” said Sutton, a senior at Michigan Collegiate.

Critics also called this year’s show big success. Maybe it was the debut of the 2016 Ford GT, making its re-appearance since 2012, that have the people talking.

Every year cars are judged and awarded on their looks, safety, performance and durability, among other factors. This year the Ford GT took home the EyesOn Design “Best Designed Production Vehicle” award, while other cars like the Volkswagen Golf GTI won car of the year award and the Ford F-150 won truck of the year award.

There are three show previews held before it is opened to the public. Press preview, industry preview and a charity event. The charity event raises money for local children charities. According to the NAIAS website, this year $5.3 million was raised for children’s charities.

Also according to the NAIAS website, economist David Sowerby measured the impact of NAIAS 2015 at $400 million. Since Detroit is known for being the “Motor City” you can say the auto ahow is doing the city a good deed by bringing in publicity and finances.

If you missed the show this year make sure to catch it next year for more compelling and jaw-dropping exhibits.

“I can’t wait to actually see the new Ford GT driving on the streets next year,” Sutton said.
