EEV: Senior Pinning honors students’ accomplishments

By Victoria Smith and Kyra Edwards Staff Writers

On Feb. 5, East English Village held its Senior Pinning at Decarlos Banquet Hall. Seniors whom were accepted into a university were given special accolades. Seniors who received a 3.0 GPA or higher were also recognized.

So far, East English Village seniors have been awarded more than $110,848 in scholarships.

Kejuan Valentine, who spoke at the event, overcame difficult obstacles such as getting hit by a car, missing a lot of school but he still made it to become the second highest GPA in his class and he is now the class of 2015 salutatorian.

Valentine received a standing ovation after his speech.

“I just continued to strive and persevere,” he said.

Two members of the class of 2015 showed their musical talent when they sang a song that they left many parents and staff members in attendance in tears.

EEV seniors Darryl McElrath and Ke'Shawn Little sang “Mama” by August Alsina, with accompanist Mark McGruder on the piano.
